What happens when you clean up files in NeatDrive?

NeatDrive doesn't delete anything immediately. A scan identifies issues — duplicates, over-shared files, stale content, and oversized storage hogs — and groups them into a cleanup plan for you to review. NeatDrive is read-only by default, every change is previewed before it happens, nothing changes unless you approve it, and every action is written to a full activity log you can export. What you can undo depends on the action. Revoke a share, undo it for 30 days. Archived items are rolled back from the Batches page for 30 days. Files NeatDrive deletes go to your Google Drive Trash, where NeatDrive can restore them for 30 days. A bulk rename cannot be undone once the post-apply drawer closes. Removing your own access and transferring ownership cannot be undone in NeatDrive at all.

Do you ever read or store your file contents?

Not by default. NeatDrive only accesses file metadata — names, sizes, creation dates, modification dates, and sharing permissions. We never open, read, index, or store the actual content of your files for standard audits. File contents are only accessed for two opt-in features, content-aware naming and a content-based duplicate check, and only on files you specifically select. NeatDrive has completed an independent Cloud Application Security Assessment (CASA) under Google's framework, which Google requires of every application requesting restricted Google Drive™ scopes. Your files stay in your Drive.

Will NeatDrive break your Drive links or file access?

No. NeatDrive is built preview-first: you see every proposed change before it happens. Our cleanup actions are designed to preserve file associations and shared links. Files are moved to a NeatDrive Archive folder in your own Drive rather than deleted outright, and we maintain a complete audit trail at every step. What you can undo depends on the action: revoked sharing is restorable in-app for 30 days; deleted files are restorable for 30 days; transferring ownership can't be reversed — Google requires the new owner to give it back.

You choose the scope — My Drive, shared drives, or all drives. Google only lists shared drives to apps that can read or change them, so shared-drive scanning needs the write grant. A scan covers one connected account: NeatDrive doesn't scan other people's Drives, and it isn't a domain-wide Workspace audit.

NeatDrive scans your Google Drive and surfaces four categories of issues: duplicate files (exact copies, identified by checksum, wasting storage), over-shared files (items shared too broadly — with "anyone with the link" or outside your organization), stale content (files untouched for months or years that are cluttering your Drive), and oversized files (large items consuming disproportionate storage). Each issue type gets its own view in the results, so you can tackle what matters most first.

Yes. The audit runs on a read-only metadata model — names, sizes, dates, owners and sharing permissions. File contents are read only for the optional content-aware naming and content-based duplicate check, and only on the specific files you select. Content is never stored. NeatDrive has completed a Cloud Application Security Assessment (CASA) — an independent third-party audit administered by the App Defense Alliance and built on the OWASP Application Security Verification Standard.
